Twitter acknowledged Wednesday that high profile accounts were compromised and were posting malicious links, urging their followers to send $1,000 in Bitcoin to a specific address.
“We are aware of a security incident impacting accounts on Twitter. We are investigating and taking steps to fix it. We will update everyone shortly,” read a tweet posted on the company’s official account.
Among the high-profile Twitter accounts appear to have been hacked included former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Apple and Uber accounts.
